Petite Blackie is our FURPA mascot. She was 4 weeks old at intake. After a week of bottle feeding, she was a kitten fading. She was rushed to the hospital where she stayed for 2 weeks and regained her health. She came home and was happy and playing with Tippy, her sister.  The next morning, she declined again. She was immediately hospitalized again and showed recovery after 3 days; however, shockingly and without any indication, she was gone during the night.  All of this, the very creation of FURPA, is in memory of her and the ones she represents who are taken to a shelter too young and left with no care causing a decline in health and maybe being euthanized. We lost Petite Blackie and Blackie, her other sister. However, her second sister, Tippy, is thriving after a long fight back to live her best life. By De’Ann Clark, CEO & Founder

Like so many other abused, abandoned, or neglected pets, or pets who are hurt and need immediate medical attention, Petite Blackie was not afforded that wonderful life she deserved.

Agree to this basic understanding below:
I understand this is primarily a volunteer position to clean, and that there is a certain period of time to ensure all things are done at FURPA for our daily operations. This involves cleaning litter boxes, floors, wiping down walls, tables windows, etc. It includes picking up feces and cleaning urine off various surfaces, cages, trash and more. it also involves feeding and refilling pet food and water bowls or dispensers. Once everything is complete you are welcome to sit and hang out with the cats, we do ask that while you are actively volunteering you help as much as possible and take the initiative to get things done to help the team. We cannot do it with out our Volunteers. Your efforts and support are very important. We need dedicated hard working self motivated people to join our team. Ideally you commit to one shift weekly on a regular basis. Below, you can list the days and times you are available and we will be in touch. Currently, volunteer shifts for adolescents are unavailable.

I understand that because I will be handling animals, I may be exposed to zoonotic diseases transmitted from cats to humans, and that working with cats i am at risk of being scratched and bitten. Any injuries will be reported immediately. i will also be working with chemicals to maintain the cleanliness of the facility. ,I agree to take responsibility for assuring my own protection from risk and release FURPA - Friends Under Rescue Pet Adoption Inc, all staff, employee, owners, managers and volunteers from any liability. I also understand that this is a commitment and if for any reason i cannot make a shift or continue volunteering, i will let the staff know.

Hello Future Pet Owners!

In memory of Petite Blackie and all the pets that don’t survive, FURPA – Friends Under Rescue Pet Adoption urges you to help us save the ones we can. There are many ways you can help like Fostering, Volunteering or Donating to prevent the tragedy of kill shelters and suffering. Together we can rescue traumatized or injured pets, provide emergency shelter and treatment, rehabilitate them, and regain their trust, to finally place them in the best new homes we can find. Please sign up to Adopt, Donate, Volunteer or Foster. It is so appreciated! The fur babies need us, as we believe, we need them, too.

Love, A FURPA HELPER
